9:50 - 10:30 a.m. -- Mindful Motherhood: The Art and Science of Staying Awake During the Grandest Adventure of All!
From hormones to stretch marks, labor pains to diaper changes, motherhood is an adventure like none other. The rapid changes in your body, your lifestyle, and your very identity call for a certain mental agility. Mindfulness can help you meet the challenge and approach every experience with your child with open eyes and an open heart. Mindful Motherhood shows how fundamental principles of mindfulness such as acceptance, nonjudging, beginner’s mind, and present-moment focus can be applied to the experience of pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood. Translating theories of mother-infant bonding, child development and the science of well-being, particularly as they relate to mindfulness, the Mindful Motherhood training is about finding realistic ways that mindful awareness can be gently and compassionately woven throughout the fabric of each day.

Closing Remarks on Mindful Motherhood by Cassandra Vieten, PhD
Mindful Motherhood is:
… a practice that is focused on helping us be aware in the present moment, in our bodies, and connected with our kids, even when the going gets rough
… a way of being awake and aware in each situation we encounter as a moms, with less judgment, and more curiosity and compassion about making decisions that are in alignment with our own values and goals
… as moms, responding to situations as they actually are, rather than being driven by outdated patterns from our own childhood, or societal programming
…. about going beyond the story we've been told about what being a mom means and coming into this present moment, creating a new story that is right for us and our families
… a practice of coming into intimate contact with the richness, joy, and blow-you-away love that motherhood can bring
… a way of approaching each new situation as a mom with open eyes, an open mind, and an open heart.
About the Museum of Motherhood: We are the first and only facility of its kind. The Museum Of Motherhood serves as a valuable resource for everyone including those who wish to honor mother-work and those who wish to study the cultural family, from lay-people, to school children to serious scholars. As an organization devoted to educating the world about the contributions of mothers both historically and in contemporary culture, we intend to fill a longstanding void by focusing on the many roles of mothers throughout history with our physical and virtual library, exhibit facility, traveling productions, and resource center. We honor the many unsung heroes as well as the famous and great and share the remarkable stories of how birthers & caregivers cope, inspire and prevail. There are all types of mothers here: stepmothers, adoptive mothers, activist mothers, mother artists, single mothers, divorced mothers and mothers who successfully navigated married life. The Museum of Motherhood is the house that is home to their legacy.
